Writer: Mira RamMira Ram

The VEX Robot Skills Challenge is a way for teams to showcase their skills individually on the field. Scores that teams receive are updated in the world rankings and some highly scoring teams may even qualify to the World Championship through this. Along with every new season, there is a new skills challenge that is compatible with the new game elements. Here is this year's:

A little bit more about the High Stakes Skills Challenge:

During this challenge teams will participate in one-minute (1:00) matches aiming to accumulate as many points as possible. The matches are divided into Driving Skills Matches, which are completely driver-controlled, and Autonomous Coding Skills Matches, which are run autonomously with minimal human intervention. Teams' rankings will be determined by their total scores across both match types.

The layout of the game elements also varies between the standard matches and as a result, all 24 red rings and all 5 mobile goals are utilized but not all 24 blue rings will be used.

Skills fields also have barcodes that are part of the field walls, this allows more advanced teams to utilize the GPS sensor to detect the robot's position on the field. Many also make use of various other sensors during the skills challenge like vision, distance, color, and inertial.
